Southern Cassowary in Australia

Where are southern cassowarys in Australia? The strongest odds are at Daintree Rainforest, where access and habitat beat a chance roadside glimpse.

Daintree Rainforest in Queensland is the place to begin. Ancient tropical forest at the edge of the Great Barrier Reef, with cassowaries, tree kangaroos, and forest birds. Give yourself quiet time at dawn or dusk and keep your distance.

Australia context: Koalas in the gum trees, kangaroos across the red centre, and wildlife found nowhere else on Earth.

In Australia, look especially around tropical rainforest, monsoon forest, and swamp forest. Those settings usually put you closest to where this species is active.
