Privacy Policy
Effective 7 August 2026. This policy explains how Catch'Um Games ("we", "us", "our") handles information when you use catchum.app and the Catch'Um iOS app.
Overview
Catch'Um is a wildlife discovery app. We collect only what we need to run the app, improve your experience, and, on this website, notify you about our App Store launch if you ask us to.
By using our website or app, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our services. For terms governing use of Catch'Um, see our Terms & Conditions.
Who we are
The data controller for Catch'Um is Catch'Um Games. You can contact us about privacy at hello@catchum.app.
Information we collect
Catch'Um iOS app
Depending on how you use the app, we may collect:
- Account information: such as your display name and email address, or identifiers provided through Sign in with Apple or other sign-in methods we support.
- Photos and camera input: when you scan wildlife, the app processes images on your device and/or our servers to identify species and log discoveries. We do not use scans for unrelated advertising.
- Location data: if you grant permission, we may use approximate or precise location to tag where a discovery was made, show nearby wildlife, or improve map features. You can control location access in iOS Settings.
- Collection and gameplay data: species you unlock, rarity, timestamps, and other in-app progress.
- Device and usage data: device model, operating system version, app version, crash logs, and general usage analytics to fix bugs and improve performance.
catchum.app website
When you visit our website, we may collect:
- Launch notification sign-ups: if you enter your email before the app is live, we store it to send you a single launch announcement (and related operational messages about that signup).
- Website analytics: we use PostHog to understand page views, traffic sources, and download or launch-notify button clicks. PostHog may store a first-party cookie or use local storage to recognise returning visitors and persist campaign attribution (UTM parameters).
- Standard server logs: IP address, browser type, referring page, and pages viewed, collected automatically by our hosting provider for security and reliability.
We do not knowingly sell your personal information. We do not use website cookies for cross-site advertising.
How we use information
- Provide and operate Catch'Um: including scanning, collections, accounts, and sync.
- Send launch notifications you requested on the website.
- Improve the app and website: debugging, analytics, and feature development.
- Keep users safe: fraud prevention, abuse detection, and enforcing our terms.
- Comply with law: responding to valid legal requests where required.
Legal bases
If you are in the UK or EEA, we process personal data on these bases:
- Contract: to provide the app and services you request.
- Consent: for optional features such as location, marketing emails, or push notifications where iOS or our UI asks for permission.
- Legitimate interests: to secure our services, understand usage, and improve Catch'Um, balanced against your rights.
- Legal obligation: where we must retain or disclose information by law.
Retention
We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes above. Account and collection data is retained while your account is active. Launch-notification emails are removed within a reasonable period after we send the launch notice, unless you create an app account with the same email. Server logs are rotated on a short schedule.
You may request deletion of your account and associated data by emailing hello@catchum.app.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent where processing is consent-based.
UK and EEA residents may lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority. California residents may have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including requesting disclosure of categories of data collected and opting out of any future “sale” or “sharing” (we do not sell personal information).
To exercise your rights, contact hello@catchum.app. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
Children
Catch'Um is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country without parental consent). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
International transfers
We may process data in the United Kingdom and other countries where our providers operate. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses approved by regulators.
Security & changes
We use technical and organisational measures to protect your information, but no system is completely secure. Please use a strong device passcode and keep your app updated.
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and update the effective date. Material changes to the app may also be communicated in-app or by email where appropriate.
